Kenora Veterinary Clinic Recommendation:
Tick prevention only, additional heartworm prevention recommended. Monthly chewable tablet. The KVC recommends tick prevention from March – October.

Please note that Lyme ticks are active anytime the temperature is above 0 degrees Celsius, and they remain the most active in the Fall.

An examination with a Veterinarian is required every 2 years to continue dispensing this product.

DESCRIPTION:
Nexgard for Dogs and Puppies is a chewable, once-monthly tablet that uses Afoxolaner to control fleas and ticks. It also prevents future infestations. It's the only product approved by the FDA to kill ticks and fleas on dogs, and it prevents Lyme disease by killing potential disease-carrying parasites. It also controls infestations of American dog ticks (Dermacentor variabilis) and fleas (Ctenocephalides felis).

Key Benefits:
NexGard is administered on a monthly basis at a rate of 1.14 mg of Afoxolaner per pound of body weight.
This active ingredient works to inhibit acarine and insect ligand-gated chloride channels, particularly the ones gated by the GABA.
This blocks the pre-post synaptic transfer of the chloride ion across the membranes of the cell.

Formulated For:
For dogs 8 weeks or older and weight more than 4 lbs

How is Medication Given?
Administer without or with food.
Ensure that your dog consumes his or her full dose, and continue to monitor for a few minutes to be sure no portion of the dose is refused or lost. If you believe that part of the dose is lost, or if the dog vomits within 2 hours of use, administer another regular dose.
If you miss a dose, administer as soon as you remember and resume a once-monthly administration schedule.
Begin treatment during any part of the year.
If you live in an area in which fleas tend to be found throughout the year, treat monthly with no interruption.
To prevent re-infestation, treat every animal in the home with this or another approved product.

What Results Can I Expect?
Nexgard is the only chewable approved by the FDA to kill ticks and fleas. It's easy to use, and it is highly effective in a low dose.
